Was discussing with a senior friend of mine. I always have many senior, mature friends because I get to learn a lot from the wisdom that they have from their experiences. So its good to know people who have seen the world more than u. We were discussing NBA and Basketball champs. And they were mentioning about some guy who was a very good player, what he mentioned in his interview.
It was something like this: "My family has taught me that there is a Difference between a Need and a Want" I liked that statement that I asked my friend to narrate it again and I try to add it to my collection of some wise talk. I hope I remember it when i need to consider it.
Basically there are many things we want. We want to have a lot of money, the most amazing cars, etc. etc. But do we need them? We may be able to survive with a Moderate car and good amount of money to have a decent way of life etc etc. So there is always the difference between "I need to" and "I want to" and we should try to be careful in judging things whether we need them or we just want them.
Food for thought!

Theres a thin line which separates need from want.
Survival is the key factor in determining which side you want to play your ball.
Eg. Food is a need and may also be a want, depending on situations.
Daily bread Vs McDonalds for lunch.
Its relative according to the reference frame you are in.
All boils down to YOUR factors of survival.
One man's need might not be other man's too.
And damn! we need to take always an elusive path of CHOICE, in deciding need or a want.
About CHOICE being an illusion.. will talk later about it.
Moral of the story: Darn! it centers around 'I' and theres no I
I was about to comment on your last statement, what "we need" and what "we want" and saw that soul has already expressed a similar idea.
Now you can take this idea further. If you have separated "needs" from "wants", sort it out accordingly. And, then among the list, see which column is causing you grief. Are those the needs? I doubt it. Most of us (I am referring to you and me and our immediate friends and relatives) today are so fortunate to have had our needs columns pretty much taken care of. What causes us pain is our "want" and wait, it gets funnier. Many (those who haven't thought of "needs" and "Wants" this way) are ready to judge you based on your wants column. Because, your wants column is your life's dream, your passions, your desires, your ambitions. And, the funniest part is it is all some neurons firing in your brain. Thoda chemicals mendu mein idhar se udhar hua ke needs become wants and wants become needs.
Good post. You can see later after many years, based on such posts, how your thought process gets adapted, impressed and changed through the years. You will look back in amazement to read "Wow, did I really think like that back then?"
Makes sense guys,
Vinil (Baba) was nice to see your comment. Makes sense...I could almost visualize you saying that sitting in Invensys. Missing those days @ Invensys. Actually Missing Mumbai itself...
